Sinag-tala and The Lion King

How about that?  The Lion King is now celebrating its 15th year on stage.  The Sinag-tala Theatrical Revue is celebrating its 23rd.  We’ve been around longer.  We’ve also had more kids in our show, some of whom have since grown up and had their own kids in the show.  Some of them have grown up to be Sinag-tala directors, choreographers, musicians, teachers, technicians, administrators and other types of arts practitioners.  We like to call them cultural preservationists.  And their kids, preservationists in training.
That’s what we’ve done over 23 years, with meager resources but endless love.  In 2014, we’ll be celebrating our 25th.  The Lion King will be only 17.  But while their budget will continue to be in the millions and ours a tiny drop in the bucket, they won’t have our kids or families in their company.  They won’t be teaching what we’ve been teaching.
Yes, we’re apples and oranges but the comparison has to be made.  Because unlike Broadway companies, we’re your company and we have a connection with the community you live in.  We serve you and our young people.  So even though our sights are already on our 25th season, we think that for now you ought to relish what’s been accomplished over 23 years for your community.  Come to Sinag-tala 2012:  A Theatrical Revue and support our – that is, your – kids.  Then we can start planning for 2014.  Please share the postcard below with everyone you know (click and drag the margin buttons to enlarge it if needed).  Maraming salamat po sa inyong lahat.  Thanks to all of you.
