Things Are Happening this Sunday, 10/18/2009

Hello, Sinag-tala Family. Please note the following Sinag-tala 2009 activities that will take place this Sunday, October 18, at the Sinag-tala Studio, 8275 Florin Road, Suite 180, Sacramento.

1:30PM to 2:10PM – Children’s Rehearsal (4 – 11 yrs.), number(s) to be announced at that time.

2:20PM to 3:20PM – General Company/Production Meeting (children, teens, adults, families, production staff and volunteers)

3:30PM to 4:30PM – Teen/Adults Rehearsal (everyone 12 yrs. and older), number(s) to be announced at that time.

5:00PM to 6:30PM – SFTPAA Monthly Board Meeting

There is a possibility that another location will be secured for these activities. However, if you don’t receive an e-mail about a venue change by Friday, please assume that everything will take place at the Studio.

We expect to have a final program format and a preliminary rehearsal schedule available for everyone during the General Company meeting. We may also have tickets and other important materials ready for distribution by that time. Please be prepared to discuss volunteer opportunities. At the September 4th orientation, we handed out a list of production staff positions as a guide. Instead of waiting for suggestions from us, kindly begin thinking about what support you will be able to provide that will be compatible with your resources, schedule and existing commitments. We will hand out sign-up sheets.

It’s important that you attend, but if you’re unable to, kindly let me know by e-mail.. Those interested in joining or volunteering for the production but have not auditioned or submitted the application forms, or missed the September 4th orientation, are strongly advised to attend. Thanks!

Workshops for ST 2009

This information is for all new and returning company members for Sinag-tala 2009: A Theatrical Revue.

Although behind-the-scenes work is already in progress all this time, we regret that there has been a slight delay in getting workshops and rehearsals off the ground this year. We’ve had to double our marketing and fundraising activities this past summer in the face of the current funding situation, and this has diverted our attention a little. But don’t despair because we’re on track now.

The following is a schedule of workshops through October 14. Additional schedules will soon follow.

Wednesday, October 7 or Thursday, October 8 or Monday, October 12 (Select one date.)

7:00PM to 7:40PM – Basic Sinag-tala Concepts
Mandatory for all new and returning children 4 yrs. to 11 yrs.

Friday, October 9 or Tuesday, October 13 or Wednesday, October 14 (Select one date.)

7:00PM to 8:00PM – Basic Sinag-tala Concepts
Mandatory for all new participants 12 yrs. and older. Optional but recommended as refresher for returning participants.

Saturday, October 10 or Sunday, October 11 (Select one date and time slot based on age group.)

11:00AM to 11:40AM or 1:30PM to 2:10PM – Tok Dis Wey (Tagalog Phonetics)
Mandatory for all new and returning children 4 yrs. to 11 yrs., except for habitual speakers of any Philippine language.

2:20PM to 3:20PM or 3:40PM to 4:40PM – Tok Dis Way (Tagalog Phonetics)
Mandatory for all new participants 12 yrs and older, except for habitual speakers of any Philippine language. Optional but recommended as refresher for returning participants.

We prefer that participants attend the sessions tailored for their age groups, but families with members in more than one age group may attend any session together if going to separate sessions will pose a hardship or cause an absence for any individual.

Parents or guardians planning to stay and wait for anyone who is attending a session are encouraged to participate also. There’s no charge for attending anyway, so there’s nothing to lose but something to gain. I will personally facilitate all of the above workshops.

Anyone who is interested but has not yet auditioned or applied should begin attending these workshops anyway and request an application form. We will arrange for make-up auditions later.

Per our standard policy, anyone who cannot attend must notify the responsible artist (in this case, yours truly) in advance by e-mail or phone. I may be reached at salforque@aol.com or (916) 217 1157. Please don’t hesitate to ask questions.

Please watch out also for announcements about production meetings and volunteering. Thanks.

Schedule Changes

This is to let everyone know that some changes have been made to the rehearsal schedules for October 25 and 26. See the highlighted sections of the attachment. Please review them carefully.

RehearsalSchedChange_102208.pdf

In summary, the changes are as follows:

1. The cast call for tinikling dancers on October 25 has been moved from 10:00AM to 12:20 PM. While the Seafood City event starts at 11:00AM, we are being given a 12:45PM performance time so that interested tinikling dancers may attend the Stories with Shadows workshop (instructor: Conrad Panganiban) in the morning before going to Seafood City. Dancers MUST get to Seafood City no later than 12:20PM, however.

2. Also on October 25, there will no longer be a rehearsal from 2:00PM to 3:00PM. The Kapayapaan dancers’ rehearsal will be re-scheduled. Watch for announcements.

3. On October 26, there will be a special continuation session of the Stories in Shadows workshop from 8:00PM to 9:30PM. Don’t miss it.

All other scheduled rehearsals and activities on these two dates remain the same. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Thanks for your patience.

Training-Rehearsal Schedule Thru December

Hi, friends. OK, here it is – the complete schedule through the end of the ST2008 run. PLEASE review it carefully and make arrangements to clear your calendars. As you’ll note, our work is only getting more intense. Considering all the things we must still put together at this stage, the production work must now be given highest priority. Note also that our activities are running later into the evening. Please manage your time carefully to avoid conflicts.

Right-click and select, “Save As…” to save the following pdf to your computer and view. rehearsalSchedule_101608.pdf

Business and production staff should note that there are a number of TBAs throughout. If you feel there will be a need for special meetings or rehearsals related to your assignment, consider these TBAs ahead of time. You may request to reserve these times if necessary. However, I will weigh all rehearsal-related needs first. Note also that specific times have been set aside for working on the souvenir program.

Costume lists and detailed bulletins will follow soon.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Thanks.

Updated Rehearsal and Training Schedule – 9-15-08

Please note the attached new schedule, which is good through October 1. Attendance is now becoming more critical so please avoid missing the listed activities.

http://www.sftpaa.org/docs/RehearsalSchedule_9-15-08-1.pdf

Dancers will be interested to know that we will begin scheduling dance rehearsals after October 1. We may also hold special dance auditions for those who were unable to attend the dance auditions last July. However, all dancers should know that they are also required to attend the singing rehearsals. You will be disallowed from dancing if you fail to attend singing rehearsals. The same policy applies to actors. All performers are required to participate in singing numbers.

Please note also that on Saturday, September 27, we will be holding a very special no-host Family Karaoke Nite at the Tambayan Restaurant on Elsie R. and East Stockton Blvd., (near the Chevron Gas Station) in Sacramento. You are all encouraged to be there with your family and friends. A portion of the food sales that evening will be donated to SFTPAA. A very brief update will be given to all the families and cast members about a few important developments related to the show. But the main objective is to unwind, re-wind and party. And heat up that karaoke mike. And maybe even more.

Also, if you happen to be at the Studio, ask us about the SaveMart SHARE card. It won’t cost you a thing, and it’ll help us raise funds. All you need to do is ask the cashier to swipe it whenever you shop at certain supermarkets. A percentage of your purchase will automatically donated to SFTPAA. Can’t be any easier!

Please don’t hesitate to ask questions if you have any. Thanks, everyone!

Rehearsals and Bowling

For purposes of clarification, the rehearsals scheduled for this coming Saturday, August 23, will proceed as scheduled, even though we will also be holding a bowling fundraiser that afternoon. We will therefore be counting heavily on all who are not cast members, and their friends/relatives, to support the bowling fundraiser. Carpooling by parents and others to Country Club Lanes while the cast rehearses at the Studio should be considered. I will personally chaperone the cast members at the Studio until their drivers/rides return, no matter how late. Please help if you can.

By the way, we also welcome food donations for the bowling fundraiser. Please contact Alex Castellano at 916-271-2597 if you can contribute some food. Thanks.

Thursday Rehearsal and Mag-boling Muna Po Tayo!

Hello, everyone. It’s a sure sign of how hectic our recent schedule has been when it takes this long to send out the Sinag-tala Bulletin. And so this is NOT our next bulletin. But since we continue to hear from new friends who need the information that the bulletin provides, we owe it to them to at least let them know that while the following urgent announcements have to be shared right away, we will be sending out the usual bulletin information very soon. So please hang in there, new friends. Meanwhile old and new friends alike should know that:

a) All rehearsals scheduled for this Thursday, August 21, have been cancelled. Sorry!

b) Thanks to Alex Castellano, we will have our first bowling fundraiser for 2008 on Saturday, August 23 at Country Club Lanes, 2600 Watt Avenue, Sacramento from 4:00PM to 6:00PM. AND WHAT A DEAL! The $20.00 fee includes bowling admission, shoe rental, food and drinks – not to mention the great time you’re going to have. All proceeds will support the Sinag-tala 2008 Theatrical Revue. Spread the word! But please RSVP because lanes are limited. Or just be there anyway (with some cash) and hang out with the crazy, happy Sinag-tala Family. Contact Alex right away at (916) 271-2597.

More news to come later! Take care and enjoy the weather, everyone!
